hot damn, it's true

Goodbye, no use leading with our chins,
This is where our story ends,
Never lovers; ever friends.
Goodbye, let our hearts call it a day,
But before you walk away, I sincerely want to say...

I wish you bluebirds in the spring, to give your heart a song to sing,
And then a kiss, but more than this, I wish you love.
And in July, a lemonade, to cool you in some leafy glade,
I wish you health, and more than wealth, I wish you love.

My breaking heart and I agree that you and I could never be,
So with my best, my very best, I set you free.

I wish you shelter from the storm, a cozy fire to keep you warm,
But, most of all, when snowflakes fall, I wish you love.
I wish you shelter from the storm, a cozy fire to keep you warm,
Most of all, when snowflakes fall,

hot damn, I wish you love.

(Thank you, Jesus, for your peace. You are so very, very good to me.)

New Pillows

Last night, I was at Walmart buying something.  I can't remember what it was, now.  Oh! Diet Coke.  I was buying a lot of diet coke. (I forgot the limes, though, and that's my favorite part to diet coke at home -- the fresh squeezed lime. But now I'm really rabbit-trailing from the post's purpose.  Apologies.)

So I was at Walmart and I saw pillows on sale.  And by "sale," I mean super-ridiculously cheap pillows on sale for something like $3.48 each.  And I realized in front of the display that I honestly could NOT remember the last time I purchased pillows -- AND -- that the pillows on my bed resembled pancakes, while these cheap-ola pillows looked like piles of fluffy down... So, I bought two.  It cost me almost seven bucks.

I came home.

I pillow-cased them and put them on my bed.

I went to sleep, eventually.

SEVEN HOURS LATER, I woke up and realized I slept through the night.  No tossing and turning.  No bathroom visits.  Just Me, my new cheap pillows and my old expensive blankets.

So, I am completely crushing on my new cheap pillows.  They are Huge and they are Perfect for Side Sleepers and they are Quality Assured.

Apparently, they are also full of integrity.  Because they were exactly who they said they'd be :)  And don't we all want a crush like that?

hydrangeas and hopefulness

Listening to Nat.  Enjoying my gift to myself: beautiful fresh flowers. Preparing for a fun night with girlfriends.  Gratefully thanking the Lord for His faithfulness in all things.

"The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?"

For Every Stoplight I Didn't Make...

I'm currently sort-of, kind-of, just-a-little-bit in love with country music.  Well, maybe not all of country music -- but I definitely love certain artists and sounds.  I don't know if country music just fits as the natural soundtrack to a Southern summer or whether living below the Mason-Dixon line for seventeen years is finally catching up with me, but sounds like "This" make this girl smile :)

14,000 Things to be Happy About

Years and years ago, my beloved college friend J gave me a thick little pudgy book titled 14,000 Things to be Happy About.  I don't read it cover to cover; it's not that kind of book.  It's the kind of book you grab, flip to some random page, and read.  I used to keep a highlighter near it, and when an item in the list caught my eye, I'd highlight it.  I also dog-ear the pages that are my favorite.  Today's blog is in honor of this little white book that has kept me company for ten years now.  These are the things I am happy about, in this moment and on this Saturday:

Soft spring rain.
The feel of the warm, skinny vanilla latte cup in my hand.
Starbucks colors (warm oranges and browns and yellows)
Writing "to do" lists on brown, recycled paper napkins.
Cinnamon-chip scones.
Mellow music by Sting and Joan Collins.
Good hair days.
The passage in I Corinthians that promises that "when the perfect comes, the imperfect will disappear" (my Rosina-translation)
My favorite pen.
A silent cell phone.  Lol.

"Well," said Pooh, "what I like best," and then he had to stop and think.  Because although Eating Honey was a very good thing to do, there was a moment just before you began to eat it which was better than when you were, but he didn't know what it was called.  ~A.A. Milne

Happiness Is...

I'm putzing around my cozy little apartment, talking to my sister A most of the morning, unpacking Christmas decorations, cleaning the kitchen ... and this song popped into my head!  I couldn't honestly even remember what it was from or where I'd heard it, so I googled (I'm in love with google) and it's from the play You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown!  The neat and nostalgic thing about THAT discovery is that my college theater group put on that show my junior year and they did an AMAZING job.  It brought back a lot of memories, which made an already good day even better :)
